San Francisco Language Exchange: A Quick Overview

Ryan is an English-speaker living in San Francisco. He is interested in learning Japanese. Kei is a Japanese-speaker studying in San Francisco. He is interested in improving his English. They both register for free with San Francisco Language Exchange.

Once we match Ryan and Kei, they each pay a one-time matching fee of $30 and are sent each other's contact information. Ryan and Kei are now free to meet as frequently as they wish and teach each other their languages!

They meet weekly in a coffee shop downtown. Ryan teaches Kei English for 45 minutes, and then Kei teaches Ryan Japanese for the same amount of time. As time goes by, their fluencies improve and they can both carry a conversation in either language comfortably. They also develop a strong understanding of each other's cultures and customs. They marvel at the fact that this whole experience cost them only a one-time fee of $30. Everybody wins!
